matt & amber pt. 2

The day after their gorgeous wedding, we spent more time together in Charleston and then back on the beach, just in time to watch the sun go down. Congratulations again, and thanks for trusting me to do these photos for you!

Meet Junior and Heather! I know it’s out of order, but these are from the day after their wedding.  Wedding photos coming soon.  This beautiful couple invited dixie pixel to their destination wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  I’m happy to say that I survived my first “beach” destination wedding! There’s so much to say about their wedding, but you’ll have to wait for another blog post.  I had to force my old man, Brian, to come along as my assistant and he did a great job carrying all of my crap all over Old San Juan.  We fought the crazy traffic (seriously, crazy.) and the bazillion tourists and locals hanging out at the fort.  It was a beautiful day for kite flying, and there were close to 100 kites over our heads while we there.  It was really beautiful.  Heather and Junior got the celebrity treatment–Heather was even cornered by some little admirers :)   Just adorable!  Because our session took place at high noon (due to Brian and I having to be at the airport by 3pm), I started off by playing it safe in the open shade along the beautiful buildings . . . but dude and seriously, where is the fun in that?  (in case you’re wondering what the hell I’m talking about–it’s a golden rule in portrait photography to AVOID high noon sunlight like the plague because it’s not “pretty”.  Whatever.)  Once we finished in Old San Juan we played chicken in the traffic and got back to the AMAZING El San Juan resort for some more stunning portraits.  Finally, we ended on the beach.  We didn’t plan a “trash the dress”, but sometimes, it just happens.  And Heather is friggen awesome for accepting the fact that it’s okay to get an expensive dress dirty for the sake of art.   Stay tuned you all.

opolka-8599Finally, their day after photos!  After Tim and Kate’s wedding, we did the only INSANE thing to do–go back into the tourist trap known as Cades Cove on a holiday :)   I’ve got a serious love/hate for Cades Cove.  I love love love the scenic backdrops, but I am not a patient person, and the one-way 11 mile road at 10 mph literally takes all day!  However, I must say, that it was worth it.  We had to bust some butt to get out of Cades Cove to get them to their reception on their wedding day, so there was really no time for portraits of the 2 of them in the park.  The perfect solution:  a day after session.   We got some beautiful afternoon sun, which provided killer light for our session.  And of course, we shot into the night after the sun went down.  Kate was my first 2 dress brides, she wore a modern gown for their ceremony, but for the reception she donned her Grandmother’s wedding gown, from the 1940′s. Isn’t it beautiful?
